Growth Is Evidence For Life

"Change always comes bearing gifts."  ~Price Pritchett Hi there!

I mentioned to a friend today that I have been noticing shifts happening in people all around me.  It seems that big life changes are being made, internally and externally.  Maybe it is 2012, who knows.  I simply see and feel people's growth happening at a seemingly accelerated pace and I am excited.

I feel strongly that now is the time to acknowledge areas in your life that you have ignored, denied or been fearful of facing.  See where that takes you.  What are some things you would like to see happen in your life and what would it take to make those things happen?  When change is in the air all you need to do is breathe (at first, then act).  I believe that we affect one another, that we are all connected.  When I change something about my life for the better I am able to help others do so simply by being an example.  When you see that something is possible for one you are better able to see it as a possibility for you as well.

Shifts are great because nothing can ever go back to the way it was.  Shifts are scary because of the same thing.  Often when you see yourself stuck or in a place that is static it is important to see how you are maintaining that position on purpose.  Change can be scary.  The unknown can bring up our fear of uncertainty.  However, it is even more scary, to me, to remain where I am with no forward movement to speak of.  I would consider that the ultimate death.  How is your fear of change making it impossible for you to reach your potential?  Do you have an idea of what your potential is?

Good luck with all of the changes in your internal world, I am sure you can feel it.  I know that when you are open to all that is in store the gifts pour in like a torrential rain.  I am always excited to hear about it too… so please share.

"The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions."  ~Ellen Glasgow

Get Up, Stand Up

I am asked all of the time how I have so much energy.  Well, I spend many hours a day moving my body vigorously and that stokes my fire for the rest of my day.  It is like breathing into the flames to bring more heat. Regardless of the weather, of your sleep habits, or your energy level, MOVE your body.  You will feel so much better for it.  Whether it is a jog, tennis, basketball, volleyball, cross fit, indoor cycling, rowing, doing BodyRock TV, or 8 minutes of jumping jacks.  Give your body the opportunity to flush out energy that is sitting and needs to flow.  Give your body the opportunity to sweat out toxins that it cannot without a little push.  Give your body the opportunity to stretch and reach and show some of the potential for movement it has.

We are not supposed to sit all day.  In Australia there was a study of more than 200,000 people that concluded that those who sit most die soonest.  Exercise does not take away this effect, though it does reduce it greatly.  People who sat more than 11 hours a day had a 40% higher risk of dying in the next 3 years than people who sat less than four hours a day.  (This was concluded after adjusting for age, weight, physical activity and general health status).

Yes, I mean to scare you.  If that will get you up out of your chair and into a gym, or outside, or in your living room to begin a daily exercise routine, then so be it.  So many of us worry about working out too much.  Worrying that our bodies need to 'rest' and that we need to let the soreness retreat before we move our bodies intensely again.  Hogwash!!  Worry about the effects of being physically still.  Say you workout for 45 minutes or 3x/week and sleep 8 hours a day. You still have almost 15.5 hours left in your day.  Do you spend most of it sitting?

"We're finding that people who sit more have less desirable levels of cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides and even waist size, which increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease and a number of health problems." ~Steven Blair, Epidemiologist

So, how can you tweak your daily routine to take the sitting out of it, just a little bit?  Give your body a break by moving it most of the day.  You will not be sorry.

Life is Movement

Howdy, When you stop growing you die.  Life ends when movement ceases.  Many of us search for stillness, for a reprieve from growth.  We use all sorts of things to basically numb, slow down, shut out, or to simply stop movement in any direction.  We look for security, stability, predictability.  We look for people to be enable us and call them 'kind' or 'loving' when they do.  I don't consider helping someone stay in an addictive behavior as being kind or loving.  Anyone who comes into my world will be challenged in the exact way they need to be.

"We find comfort among those who agree with us-growth among those who don't." ~Frank A. Clark

I am challenged every day.  I am challenged to do what I know to be the thing that I must do at any given moment.  I live purposefully and passionately.  I grow moment by moment.  I feel differences on a regular basis and I appreciate the 'struggle' that brings me to new territory within myself.  It is work, growth.  It is constant effort that can be attributed to growth.  Growth isn't about being still.  It is about movement.  It is about life.  Think about how we are created.  It isn't through holding of a hand or a touching on a shoulder.  There is movement that brings about life and movement that keeps it going.   Movement is key to life.

"All growth depends upon activity.  There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work."  ~Calvin Coolidge

I challenge people (and myself) to own their present situation.  To look at their habitual behaviors and discern whether or not those behaviors are actually helping them reach their goals.  I challenge people to actually look at themselves without the niceties of "being nice" and "being soft" in order to not hurt feelings.  Sometimes feelings need to be hurt in order for growth to be sparked.  Besides, when someone get's hurt it is information.  So often where there is pain there is truth.

Look into yourself, be honest.  See the places where you are 'stuck' or repeating patterns.  Watch yourself play the same tapes over and over in your head.  Do you want to remain here… this place or do you want to grow, move, live?

"I will grow  I will become something new and grand, but no grander than I now am.  Just as the sky will be different in a few hours, its present perfection and completeness is not deficient, so am I presently perfect and not deficient because I will be different tomorrow.  I will grow and I am not deficient."  ~Wayne Dyer
