The Music of My Life

Hiya, When I was a little girl in Cleveland, OH, running around from morning 'til night, I loved music then.  Music has always been a huge part of my life.  Growing up with a father in the music industry and a mother who is a singer.  It was natural to for me to be obsessed with music.  I would sing, dance, create videos in my head.  I am a choreographer who just hasn't been birthed yet.  One birthday or Christmas (I am at the place now where I cannot recall those details) I received the gift of a lifetime.  A tape player that was also recorder.  What followed was years of amazing recordings, skits, commercials, phone calls where you could really only hear me responding or talking, singing, random recordings… I had that tape player from the age of 10 or so to 19 years of age.  I actually finally got rid of it about 4 years ago (which would mean I had it for about 24 years).

I remember being in love with various musicians.  Michael Jackson of course, Prince sort of… he was a little risqué.  I loved George Michael and the lead singer of Mr. Mister.  I was so in love with the song Broken Wings and the lead singer that I, in the projects in Cleveland, swore I saw him driving the same convertible he drove in the video, through my neighborhood.  I was so certain that I cut through woods to get to the street he would have been driving on…  I ran my heart out… and missed seeing the face of the guy in the convertible… but I was sure it was him.  Then there was Terence Trent D'arby who now goes by Sananda Francesco Maitreya… I knew he lived in Europe and hatched a plan to high-tail it there as soon as I figured out how one does that, so we could meet and fall in love.  I was a bit of a romantic and nut-job all rolled into one.  Still am I guess.  I even began to crush on Julian Lennon.  His song 'Too Late For Goodbye' was one of my favorites.  I remember sitting in my room and recording myself singing it over and over and over.  I would play it and be disappointed with this or that note so I would erase and re-record.

I remember making mixes from the radio, sometimes forgetting to stop the recording and getting the disc jockey's voice on the mix or having to rewind and set it up for the next song I was going to record.  I also remember running like hell to take the recording off of pause when a song I wanted would come on.  Sometimes I would be elsewhere and have to run at the speed of light in order to get every note of the song recorded.  Fun times.

I am still that girl running after the music, chasing down a song, stopping everything when a melody touches me.  I am still choreographing in my head, falling in love, dancing whenever and wherever, and recording my own version of life.  Music is my inspiration and my passion (one of a few I am lucky enough to have) and it drives me to perform at my best, to feel from my core, and to do more… always more.  My world would be empty without music I am sure… I am sure I will never find out.

Here are the songs I mentioned for you to jam on if the mood hits ya!
